POETRY: Thus Spake Death

How arrogant are we? How blind to our own pettiness? Man has only to take a look around himself to realise; all his attempts at controlling things, all his efforts… are futile. Nothing matters. Nothing will. Yet, he hasn’t learned. He simply goes deeper and deeper into the grave he’s digging for himself.

With all the chaos we’ve created around us, what about the one everybody fears? What are his thoughts? How does he view us? What opinion does he nurture? The following poem is a take assumed from the point of view of Death itself.

Thus Spake Death

Well, hello! who walks there?
Who saunters with such arrogance?
Oh, my, my! it’s you, of course.
Who else, but you proud little humans?

I should’ve known it to be you
When I heard your feet pounding the earth.
Intoxicated with the idea of yourself,
Smirking away in audacious mirth.

You wander around so sure of yourself,
Wallowing in the muck of your ego.
Breeding an attitude to sour the freshest milk,
With a heart darker than the vilest crow.

You bargain over the cheapest indecencies,
And squabble for some petty distraction.
Quarrel over trifles unnecessary,
Unaware of losing both reason and passion.

Indeed, I have nothing but contempt for you,
You cultivate idiocy in such abundance.
You strut around blindfolded with mirages,
And disgust me with your delusions.

Have you any idea how shrivelled you are?
How absolute my hold on you?
How powerless you are against me,
How helpless, how subdued?

I can trample to dust your desires,
Smother your ambitions of glory.
Raze your legacies and your monuments,
Leave you howling in misery.

I can erase you into obscurity,
Blossom your fancies into ruins.
Unshackle your fears and lend them wings,
Blanket your fantasies with screams.

I’d love to indulge myself so,
And have your hopes into the shadows chased.
Purge the air of your lustful sighs,
Cleanse this land of your stains.

But laying waste to each other so admirably,
You seem to do quite well on your own.
Crushing any who cross your path
As you scramble for the flimsy throne.

Yes, I’d rather stand by and let you do the honours,
Simply help keep the horrors fed.
For don’t you agree it’s a better spectacle
To watch you slowly wither away instead?

A small video to put things in perspective.

Dark Side Of Emotions

Sourav “Teddy” Biswas

Sometimes, what tends to be a part of greater success, often becomes the reason of a lifetime tragedy. Not many of us face this twist of amalgam. The life that we lead is often a subtle ride of ups and downs, but our emotions definitely ride a higher ground than we seldom do. We get emotional when things don’t add up the way we intend or originally intended them to. The time that passes with every second of the clock doesn’t stop for our thoughts to flow in symphony with it. When the dust settles, and we start to hear ourselves breath, these unsynchronized thoughts can either remain a feeble dislocation of pages in our life, or some eerie flip of a coin which we never want to discuss.

The internet carries substantial words about how emotional people lead a better life. Yes! That’s true with no sore doubts. But on the ground below, the candle never sees the amber light of the flame itself. Our emotions masks our vision to see the world in a more assertive way when we feed fear to our sentiments. Tragedies like the loss of loved ones, or a rampant enigma in our path of success, can lead us a downtrodden flow of our self conscious and feelings. On the flip side these teach us to be more logical with our decisions, face our fears with a stronger heart, and a chance to review our sins with a firm grip. We’ll run on the same page with these optimistic opuses if, and only if, we choose not to look down to our shattered self and let our mistakes guide us.

Emotional breakdown can often lead us to lonesome journeys. <www.onehdwallpaper.com/>

When our minds and souls choose to walk different paths; we shy away from reality, and tend to experience a series of unfortunate events or situations. The cure to our depression and emotional nemesis of our well being doesn’t easily find a door to come in. Then we are faced with sleepless nights and oscillating thoughts of how to pick ourselves up to move again.

These dark emotions always teach us where we have gone wrong with our decisions and where have we made mistakes in life . The will to reach our destiny should never be squeezed out by our emotional negativity no matter what. Faking a smile when you are wounded is tough, but what can obliterate your sanity, is allowing your dark emotions to wound that smile.

Remember the words of Confucius…

“It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop.”

I love video game music. I just completely connect with them, and it all stems from my childhood. Certain songs fit my mood at the time, but not just for a short duration. Sometimes, they connected long term, due to an ongoing experience at the time, which, in some cases, were more than several months–Or even a year, ya’ dig!?

I know some of y’all remember the bumbling soundtracks of the original Nintendo. Or even the stereo of Sega Genesis and Panasonic 3DO? I know; compared to our present contemporaries, its like a vanilla cup of ice cream versus a funnel cake or hot fudge sundae. Unfair!

I want to share some insight in what I believe is great music and why. Here’s my top 7 picks starting with the least to the greatest. Feel free to comment and list some of your favorite video game songs/soundtracks. I look forward to seeing them!

Here We Go!

  1. Star Wars “Knights of the Old Republic” ~ Bastila Shan’s theme

This one is so freaking cool, nostalgic, and down right sad. Imagine an ol’ school jazz musician from St. Louis, MO vibing with an opera singer from Italy. George Lucas of course, is directing the flow of the melody, which, to me, is bending time and causing reality to falter and stand up. The perfect unbalanced song. Thanks John Williams!

  1. Kid Icarus ~ “Castle Theme”

I just saw someone playing this on YouTube, and man, it was like being transported back to the parents’ house! Great memories. This song in particular, was stuck in my head for over 25 years, and I had no idea where it came from! Well, until today–crazy!

  1. Finial Fantasy VII ~ “Anxious Heart”

This song—this game–took me to a far away place. It was my 2nd year in college, and I played this game for an entire semester. I could not get enough of it. I personalized each character to people who were close to me at the time. The song was solid, just a floating melancholic tune that hasn’t left me at all, even at present day.

  1. Halo 2 ~ “Remembrance”

I wasn’t a big fan of the game and to be honest, I only played part 2. This song here is that damn song. I can see how someone who was in the military could feed off of its melody. It’s calm, yet honorable…or is it a lost of honor?

  1. Skyrim ~ “Far Horizons”

My first of two Elder Scroll 6 “Skyrim.” This effectively made me feel as if I was actually on the battlefield. The song is soft, yet hard. Striking, yet defensive. A duality of the mind I could say, if I want.

  1. Finial Fantasy VIII ~ “Drifting”

Just listen and you will see why.

  1. Skyrim ~ “The Streets of Whiterun”

I remember when I walked in the township of Whiterun and this music came one–Damn. I mean, prior I barely escaping from a town that was attacked by a dragon… Then, while running to Whiterun, I was getting attacked by animals and demons! Finally, I reach safety and this music plays as the gates of the township open up. It was relaxing; settling after a narrow escape. Skyrim, with all its splendor to the visual eye, the gameplay was on another level. Now, my other adventures were of more peril, but I never forgot my entry into the township. Even when I heard the whispers of “Dragonborn.”

Thanks again for walking into the mind of me with eyes wide shut..
